But who said that you have to go on holiday in company? If you too, by choice or by necessity, are a lonely traveller, in Calabria you can build your holiday around your needs, your tastes and your pace. An experience of true freedom in which you decide the times, destinations, activities and always have the possibility to change plans, without having to mediate.

Sea or mountains? Physical activity or relaxation? Culture or fun? Here are three ideas to combine the “ingredients” as you wish and enjoy an unforgettable trip.

Sea, sunsets, relaxation and culture

The most iconic of Calabria's summer destinations is certainly Tropea, with its white sandy beach and delightful historic centre where you can lose yourself to photograph panoramic views opening onto the turquoise sea. Take it easy, perhaps sitting in the sun at one of the many bars with outdoor tables, crowded with foreign tourists.

If you are looking for relaxation and nature, you can move along the coast, from Capo Vaticano to Pizzo for the unmissable tartufo ice-cream and a walk along the seafront ending with a visit to the Murat Castle.

Finally, plan a stop in Scilla, in the charming seaside village of Chianalea. From here, no one leaves without tasting the famous swordfish sandwich.

Mountain, sport and culture

If you are looking for silence and nature and want to escape from the hustle and bustle of summer heat, your oasis of peace awaits you in the Sila National Park. A regenerating holiday that includes excursions in the woods, the discovery of amazing food and wine based on zero-kilometre products and spectacular views to restore body and spirit.

Starting from Camigliatello Silano, from here you can join one of the many organised groups to explore the park. Moving on to Lorica, a boat trip on Lake Arvo awaits you. With the right equipment, you can spend hours in contact with nature doing trekking, an opportunity to meet and get to know people with the same passion.

Your holiday in Sila can continue with a visit to the culturally and artistically rich town of San Giovanni in Fiore, the birthplace of the abbot and theologian Joachim. Here you will visit the Florense Abbey, marvel at the handcrafted carpets and, of course, be won over by the aromas and flavours of the typical cuisine.

Still yearning for the sea? Stretch out to the Crotone coast, stop at Isola Capo Rizzuto to admire the fortress of Le Castella and feel like you are in a fairy tale.

History, spirituality and a “bath in the forest”

You love traces of the past, places full of sacredness, the energy of nature. Your holiday in Calabria will resemble you, this itinerary will also be an inner journey, of reconnection with oneself and with nature.

Start from Locri, cradle of Magna Graecia, of which you will find traces and suggestions in the Archaeological Park. Continue with a visit to Gerace, inside the Aspromonte National Park, along the Costa dei Gelsomini. One of the most beautiful medieval villages in Italy, it is home to the imposing Norman Cathedral and Castle. Take a break and then leave for Stilo, to discover this town of medieval origins and the Cattolica, a symbol of eastern architecture in Calabria. If extreme sports are your thing, know that in these parts, on the face of Mount Consolino, you can test yourself by practising rock climbing.

Satisfied by so much beauty, you set off again, because about an hour's drive away, a new, incredible stage of your holiday awaits you. Serra San Bruno, in the heart of the Serre National Park, immersed in nature and spirituality. And not only because of the famous Carthusian Monastery around which you can breathe an air of mysticism and prayer, but also because in the Archiforo Wood you can live the unique experience of Shirin Yoku, the forest bath, a Japanese practice according to which coming into contact with nature and plants is a panacea for the body and the mind, a true therapy.
