Paesaggi di guerra: Cosenza 1943

"Paesaggi di guerra: Cosenza 1943" (Landscapes of war: Cosenza 1943) is the title of the documentary exhibition that Cosenza State Archive has organised for Landscape Day 2022. 

The choice of this topic was motivated by the analogy between today's images of Ukrainian landscapes and those not too distant from the Second World War. Devastated cities with piles of rubble and gutted buildings become symbols of horror and cruelty. 

Cosenza, 12 April 1943: the date on which the bombardments began to rage, sparing bridges, railways, religious institutions and public and private buildings. The documents and material on display - selected from the Genio Civile archive fund, War Damage series - are intended to bear witness to the city's reconstruction activities, but also to invite reflection on the moral disaster, which is difficult to forget. 

The exhibition opened on Monday 14 March 2022 and it will remain open until 30 June 2022. It can be visited from Monday to Friday from 9 am to 1 pm. Reservations are necessary for groups of more than 3 people.
