"Open Paths" is the initiative of Viaggio Italiano that will take place on 13 and 14 April 2024, which aims to be the most important national event dedicated to paths/itineraries, promoting the values of accessibility.

During the second day, we will walk at a slow pace along the Way of St. Francis of Paola and specifically on "The Way of the Hermit": a fascinating 7 km loop hike through nature and history in the footsteps of the Calabrian hermit, passing through the places that framed his life.

It will start in San Fili, famous for being the town of the "magare" - the hags or sorceresses - and of the "Fantastica" - a sort of tutelary deity resembling a witch or Befana. Its historic centre with the imposing Mother Church of the Santissima Annunziata will kick off the hike, which among splendid panoramic views of the mountains of the Coastal Chain, Cole Susenza and the Crati Valley will reach Cerisano. In the highest part of the stage we will reach the area of the small Acquabianca Plateau and Masseria Silo, between the municipalities of Marano Marchesato and Marano Principato, characterised by extensive grasslands marked by limestone rocks, scattered farms and cultivated land. Along the itinerary, one will encounter the Monument of St Francis Benedict and a small but suggestive canyon with 15-metre high walls.
