Guided Tour
Regione Calabria
"Open Paths" is the initiative of Viaggio Italiano that will take place on 13 and 14 April 2024, which aims to be the most important national event dedicated to paths/itineraries, promoting the values of accessibility.
The first of the two days of "Open Paths" will take participants to discover one of the most evocative stages of the Basilian Way, which is 1500 km long and connects Basilicata to the region, from Lauria to Reggio Calabria.
The ring-shaped excursion will take place within the Serre Park, in the protected area of the Stilo Woods and will allow a true immersion in nature while discovering, in addition, places related to industrial archaeology. It will all begin in Serra San Bruno, birthplace of the monk Bruno of Cologne - founder of the Carthusian Order. From here we will then move on to discover the evocative route of the former 1860 Decauville narrow-gauge railway, which was used to transport timber from Ferdinandea to the Ionian coast, passing near the Mangiatorella spring, inaugurated by Garibaldi's Achille Fazzari in 1904. Finally, we will visit the Ferdinandea iron and steel plant, which was created as an extension to the Mongiana plants, and the visitable rooms of the residential area.
