On the trail of sea turtles

On Sunday 29 June 2025, a unique experience awaits nature and sea lovers along one of the most picturesque stretches of the Ionian coast of Calabria. The beach trek from Brancaleone to Capo Spartivento, organised by Kalabria Experience, Pro Loco di Brancaleone APS and Caretta Calabria Conservation, will be an opportunity to discover – walking barefoot on the sand – a stretch of coastline that is also the most important nesting site for the Caretta Caretta sea turtle in Calabria.

The route winds through dunes, crystal-clear sea and Mediterranean scents, with commentary and guidance from volunteers from Caretta Calabria Conservation, who are committed to protecting and safeguarding this stretch of coastline. The excursion is suitable for everyone and represents a concrete opportunity to contribute to the environmental promotion of the area: all proceeds will go towards the cultural and environmental activities of the promoting associations.

The meeting point is at the Lido Liberty in Brancaleone Marina, from where we will set off on a 5 km walk along the unspoilt coastline at sunset, passing through the charming area of Galati, with its agaves and landscapes suspended between land and sea. At the end of the walk, the evening will continue with a convivial dinner at the restaurant “Il Padreterno”, before returning to Brancaleone independently.
