Fancy great cinema in summer? The Magna Græcia Film Festival is the main summer event in Calabria where you can meet the famous faces of national and international cinema live, attending screenings of extraordinary first and second works in competition.
Born in 2004 from an idea of the brothers Alessandro and Gianvito Casadonte (the current artistic director), the Magna Græcia Film Festival is by now a "cult" appointment of the Calabrian summer and takes place in the Port Area of Catanzaro Lido (this year from 27 July to 4 August).
The only event of its kind, dedicated exclusively to first and second works, the Magna Grecia Film Festival wishes to give space to young Italian and international auteur cinema, which is why the films selected in competition are quality works that often find obstacles in large-scale distribution and deal with issues of social relevance, current affairs and particularly sensitive topics.
The setting of the Magna Græcia Film Festival in the fascinating scenery of the Gulf of Squillace, along the Costa degli Aranci, contributes to the magical atmosphere of its proceedings, which include side events starting in the afternoon (masterclasses, interviews, book presentations, workshops, etc.) and evening screenings up to the great end of the awards ceremony.
