Chess, history and archives: a special afternoon at the State Archives in Cosenza

On Sunday 12 October 2025, on the occasion of Paper Sunday, the State Archives of Cosenza will open its doors with the initiative 'Family Chess', an event that combines the charm of archival heritage with a passion for chess.
The day will be dedicated to family archives and the figure of Gioacchino Greco, a famous chess player from Cosenza who enjoyed international renown. From 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., there will be a chess tournament organised by ASD Gioacchino Greco of Cosenza, followed at 6:15 p.m. by the presentation of the digital version of Greco's treatise by Dr Roberto De Donato. The day will end at 6:45 p.m. with the final awards ceremony.
Throughout the day, visitors will be able to visit the documentary exhibition of the State Archives, open until Sunday 19 October, to admire historical documents and discover stories of families and personalities who have marked the history of Calabria.
