From 22 to 26 July 2026, Reggio Calabria will once again take centre stage in the Mediterranean summer by hosting the Windward Crossing of the Strait, one of the most spectacular international events dedicated to water sports. Now in its 19th edition, the event transforms the Strait of Messina into a natural stage unique in the world, where sea, wind and history come together in a challenge of pure adrenaline.
Kitesurfing, windsurfing, sailing, SUP and the increasingly popular WingFoil, the discipline that is revolutionising beaches around the world, will colour the waters off Reggio Calabria with dozens of sails launched at maximum speed. Crossing the Strait means confronting currents, wind and myth: a test that goes beyond sporting competition, becoming an experience, a story and a spectacle.
The heart of the Crossing will beat between the city centre, animated by events, entertainment and moments of sharing, and the Parco del Vento di Punta Pellaro, a landmark for sports and sustainable tourism. Here, athletes and visitors will be able to enjoy a privileged view of one of the most evocative natural settings in the Mediterranean, in a context that combines sport, innovation and environmental awareness.
With over 165,000 visitors in previous editions, live streaming, international television coverage and an increasingly global audience, the Windward Crossing of the Strait confirms its role as ambassador for a dynamic, sustainable and open-minded Calabria, capable of expressing itself through the universal language of sport and nature.
