Ports and docks

The town of Villa San Giovanni, in the province of Reggio Calabria, overlooks the Strait of Messina and its port is the main ferry terminal to/from Sicily (from which one can embark by train, car or on foot).

Punta Pezzo represents the closest point of proximity between the Calabrian and Sicilian shores, the subject of the fascinating optical illusion known as the "Morgana Fairy Effect", by virtue of which the two shores appear to be joined by upside-down objects. The beautiful Cannitello Beach is listed among the Legambiente Sails for cleanliness and comfort.

A stroll through the centre of Villa San Giovanni is an opportunity to admire some of the Art Nouveau buildings and monuments that escaped the 1908 earthquake and those that followed, such as the Old Fountain, the Church of the Immaculate Conception and the Statue of Garibaldi, a work by the Villese sculptor Rocco Larussa.
