A maritime town brimming with history, culture, and good food, Crotone offers its visitors a vast cultural heritage spanning over two millennia. From the archaeology of Magna Graecia to the fortifications of the Aragonese dynasty as well as the medieval old town where precious noble houses and ancient places of worship were built, there is beauty to be found around every corner.
The city was founded in the 8th century BC by Greek settlers from Achaea and became a Polis following the order and tradition of Hellenic institutions. It was one of the most important centres of Magna Graecia.

Crotone, the capital of the province, overlooks the Ionian Sea near the mouth of the river Esaro and falls within the Marine Protected Area of Capo Rizzuto.
