The State Archives of Cosenza are opening an exhibition entitled "The Stolen Landscape: Memories of the Fragility of the Territory in Archival Documents", inviting visitors to reflect on the relationship between humanity and the environment through historical documents preserved in Calabrian archives.
Open from 16 March to 8 May 2026, the exhibition has been organised to mark National Landscape Day, celebrated annually on 14 March. It offers visitors a journey through archival records recounting the history and transformations of the territory.
Using maps, administrative records and notarial documents, particularly from the Intendenza, Civil Engineering and Notarial collections, the exhibition explores episodes, interventions and regulations related to land management. The maps depict natural events, environmental changes and human decisions that have affected the landscape's vulnerability over time.
Thus, the exhibition provides an opportunity to reconsider the relationship between community and territory, emphasising the role of historical memory in understanding environmental risks and fostering a greater appreciation of landscape conservation.
Admission to the exhibition is free, and it can be visited from Monday to Friday, 9:00–13:00, with additional opening hours on Mondays and Wednesdays, 15:00–16:30. This initiative is aimed at citizens, scholars, and visitors interested in the history of Calabria and its environmental dynamics. Schools can also book guided tours and educational workshops designed to suit different age groups.
