Autorotella

Twenty years after Mimmo Rotella's death, Catanzaro pays tribute to one of the leading figures in international contemporary art with the exhibition Autorotella, scheduled from 9 January to 29 March 2026. The exhibition, curated by Alberto Fiz and promoted by the Mimmo Rotella Foundation, is housed in the Casa della Memoria, a symbolic place deeply linked to the artist's life, where he grew up alongside his mother and which today preserves his memory.

The exhibition begins with the self-portraits preserved in the house-museum and then expands with works from the Foundation, constructing a path that intertwines words and images, autobiography and artistic research. The title refers to Rotella's autobiography and accompanies the visitor in an intimate and powerful reflection on identity, read through the practice of self-portraiture as a poetic statement.

The selected works, created between 1969 and 1999, reflect the complexity of Rotella's language: emulsified canvases, metal sheets with décollage and overpainting, sculptures and ironic and caricatural drawings. The artist's face becomes material to be torn, manipulated and transformed, subjected to the same expressive force that acts on advertising, cinema and the urban landscape.
