On 20 February 2025, the Teatro Comunale of Catanzaro will host a unique theatrical event: ‘’The Death of Pythia‘’, an unpublished adaptation of the famous text by Friedrich Dürrenmatt that casts a grotesque and mocking glance at the story of Oedipus and the manipulation of oracles.

In this tale, published in 1976 and staged in Italy for the first time, the story of the King of Thebes is transformed into a reflection on the chaos of information and the truths artfully constructed by those in power. Pannychis Undici, the elderly priestess of Delphi, and her assistant Merops Twenty-seven, find themselves recalling the sibylline predictions of yesteryear under the watchful eye of Tiresias, while Oedipus, Jocasta and even the Sphinx appear as visions of a past reinterpreted with ruthless irony.
