The Mediterranean Biodiversity Park, in the heart of the city of Catanzaro, was inaugurated in 2004, thanks to the environmental redevelopment of the Agrarian School. The Park, which covers 60 hectares, is the result of a recent major remodeling of the landscape aimed at enhancing biodiversity. It is an ecosystem in which live large variety of flora and fauna, with a guided tour organized multi-thematic, in which the size nature is in harmony with that anthropic-cultural and leisure: the main areas of the Park are forested area Valley of the Mills, the Great Ring, the Ancient Aqueduct Ring and the Ring of Mines, which with its 48 hectares of Mediterranean forests preserves the ecological balance for deer and fallow deer. The botanical heritage includes the most important local varieties of Mediterranean flora (about 50.,000 plants) and fauna characterized by the presence of owls, parrots, eagles, crowned cranes, a Pollino griffin, lanari hawks and other bird species, all cured by the equipped veterinary clinic of CRAS (Center for Recovery of Wild Animals).
The Park also houses inside the Military Historical Museum "Catanzaro Brigade" (MUSMI), and a prestigious exhibition "open air" of international contemporary art (installation by Dennis Oppenheim, Tony Cragg, Jan Fabre, Mimmo Paladino, Antony Gormley, Wim Delvoye, Marc Quinn and Stephan Balkenhol). The Park offers areas-children, paths for jogging and biking trails, a small fitness area, playgrounds of minipallavolo, soccer and basketball and an ice-skating rink.
