The Bet

The Bet is a play written and directed by Emanuele Barresi and starring Fabio Ferrari, Gaia De Laurentiis, and Emanuele Barresi. Created by EssePi in collaboration with the Teatro Goldoni in Livorno, the Compagnia degli Onesti, and the Teatro dell'Aglio, the production offers a script that intertwines dramatic and ironic elements to address a highly topical issue.

Set in the world of betting and gambling, the story compares two men with profoundly different personal histories and social circumstances. Enrico, a lawyer, views betting as a controlled activity, whereas Michele, an unemployed worker, is completely consumed by it to the extent that it jeopardises his financial and family stability. Chiara, Michele's wife, is a central figure in the story. Despite the difficulties and tensions that mark their daily life, she is bound to her husband by a deep feeling.

A risky and impulsive gesture disrupts the fragile equilibrium of their relationships, setting in motion a confrontation involving all the characters that leads to an unexpected ending.  The Bet offers viewers an engaging and insightful exploration of the human dynamics surrounding gambling, relationships, and personal choices, presenting a narrative that balances light-heartedness with reflection while maintaining an accessible and incisive tone.
