Historical re-enactments

History comes to life among the centuries-old olive trees and ruins of ancient Scolacium. On July 27, a special afternoon awaits visitors of all ages for an authentic immersion in the past, thanks to storytelling, living history, and experiential workshops designed to bring to life the daily life, art, and games of antiquity.

The initiative, promoted by the Regional Directorate of Museums of Calabria as part of the MiC's Call for Educational Services in Places of Culture, is organized by Itineraria Bruttii Onlus and represents a unique opportunity to explore Calabria's cultural heritage in an engaging and accessible way.

Event program
The event starts at 4:00 p.m. in the Museum with an educational exhibition designed to stimulate all the senses, with particular attention to accessibility for visually impaired visitors. Among period costumes, everyday objects, weapons, ceramics, ancient musical instruments, fabrics, and even ancient delicacies such as food and wine, it will be possible to immerse oneself in the life of a distant past and discover fascinating details about the material culture of antiquity.

At 4:30 p.m., the experience becomes even more hands-on with an ancient coroplastics workshop, where adults and children alike can model statuettes and small objects in clay with their own hands, following the techniques of ancient craftsmen.

From 5:30 p.m., the fun moves to the archaeological park area with ancient games such as orcium and stomachion, puzzles and skill challenges rooted in history, accompanied by archery competitions. Participants can test their dexterity and strategy, with the chance to win themed prizes.

At 6:15 p.m., the experience continues with an exciting show: a theatrical tour of the Museum and Park of Scolacium. Actors in costume will give voice to historical figures, recounting stories, myths, and anecdotes of the life that animated this ancient place.

The event ends at 8:00 p.m., leaving visitors with memories of a unique journey through time, combining education, entertainment, and culture.
