Panathenaea of Sibaritide in honour of the goddess Athena of Lagaria

From 17 to 19 October 2025, the Francavilla Marittima Archaeological Park will host the eleventh edition of the Panathenaea of Sibaritide, a series of public archaeology and living history events dedicated to the goddess Athena of Lagaria. This event combines research, education and entertainment, offering students, families and visitors the opportunity to experience history in an immersive way.

Organised by Itineraria Bruttii Onlus in collaboration with the Municipality of Francavilla Marittima and with the contribution of the Ministry of Culture - National Fund for Historical Re-enactment 2025, the event offers a rich programme of guided tours, educational workshops, thematic exhibitions and multimedia projections.

With ceramics, Magna Graecia costumes, ancient musical instruments and games from the Hellenic period, the park will be transformed into an open-air museum. The highlight will be the grand historical re-enactment of the Panathenaea, which will recreate ancient rites and celebrations in honour of Athena, with participants, musicians and warriors from all over Calabria and beyond.
