In the Serre Regional Natural Park, a hike-workshop between nature, memory and documentary photography

Guided Tour
Regione Calabria
In the heart of the Serre Vibonesi, an event that combines hiking, tradition and photography to tell the story of an ancient and increasingly rare craft: that of charcoal burners.
On Saturday 28 June 2025, the Caffè fotografici studio will be proposing an immersive day in the Serre Regional Natural Park, with a guided hike on the Sentiero Pecoraro (Pecoraro Path) and a documentary photography workshop led by photographer Ljdia Musso and environmental hiking guide Nicola Romeo Arena.
The initiative, entitled "On the Trails of the Last Charcoal Burners", is aimed at hikers, photography enthusiasts, scholars of the territory and anyone who wants to learn more about an ancient profession linked to a profound relationship with the environment. The aim is to document and reflect on an intangible heritage in danger of disappearing, offering participants the chance to become conscious storytellers through photography.
The day will begin at 9 a.m. at the Certosa Museum in Serra San Bruno, the meeting point and departure point for the approximately 7.5 km long, medium-difficulty walk. After the hike and direct encounter with the last master charcoal burners, participants will be involved in a workshop dedicated to documentary photography as a tool for investigation, memory and visual storytelling.
There will also be an optional and free online session on 15 July on editing and constructing the final photo story.
