Architecture

Since Middle Ages Amantea was a walled city. Even today they are clearly visible various stretches of walls, within which, until the early nineteenth century, it was enclosed the town. From the edge of the flat top of the rocky hill marks it differed two wings of Walls coming down on the steep and arrived to the corners, by bastions, parallel to the sea. Repeatedly adapted and adjusted to new defensive needs, old emergencies can be reported to Aragonese period (second half of the fifteenth century) and Viceregal (XVI-XVII centuries).
