Point of interest

The High School Belvedere overlooks the Marina, with a picturesque view of the beach called "the Roccette" and the St, Leonard's Rock. This rock was originally a small island attached to the mainland, used as a hospital during the plague. Tradition has it that in 1483 St. Francis of Paola arrived in Tropea riding on a donkey and, pausing on rock, found a piece of land in the Carmine district suitable for the construction of a church, built in 1543 by the religious Giovanni Adesi. On the rock, as miraculous sign, they were the footprints of the Holy sandals and donkey's hooves.
