The town of Tropea is divided into two parts: the upper town, where lives most of the population, and the so-called "Marina". The top is on a cliff above the sea, and encompasses the historic center, built around the palaces of the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. Starting from Vittorio Veneto Square, with a central memorial of World War I, we take Corso Vittorio Emanuele, with its typical shops, that leads directly to the panorama of St. Mary of the Island. Another point of overlooking, Villa del Cannone, is reachable from Via Umberto I, the ancient road of blacksmiths. There are numerous palaces of the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries (Gabrielli Palace, former home of the Pignatelli Princes; the Seat of the Nobles, former seat of the Court of Justice; Tocco-D'Aquino Palace, birthplace of the philosopher Pasquale Galuppi; and other palaces as Zinnato, Braghò, Galli, Fazzari, Collareto, etc.). Getting lost in the narrow streets, it can find dozens of monumental portals, sculptured fountains ("Three Fountains"), churches rich in works of art and breathtaking panoramic views.
