Aragonese Tower

The Ruggero Tower (or Capo Rocchi) presumably dates back to the fifteenth or sixteenth century, although there is no evidence that they have the exact date of construction. Situated on a promontory overlooking the sea, the Tower was a lookout post for the defense of the coast from the Turkish raids. It has a circular plant with a sloping base truncated cone, and a cylindrical body separated from the base by means of a curb. At the entrance there are traces of the corbels supporting the trapdoor and crenellations. In 1638 an earthquake damaged the sentry box, the scale and the parapet. Today, completely restored, is one of the most interesting attractions of Bagnara Calabra.
