To celebrate International Women's Day, the National Archaeological Museum of Reggio Calabria (MArRC) is offering a themed tour entitled "Archeologia al Femminile". The tour is dedicated to the contributions of women to archaeological research and our knowledge of the ancient world.
The initiative highlights the work of female scholars who have shaped the history of Italian archaeology, such as Lucia Guerrini, Alda Levi, Paola Zancani Montuoro and Margherita Guarducci. These scholars have conducted significant research, excavations and studies that have deepened our understanding of past civilisations and museum collections. By recounting their experiences, the tour offers insight into the role of female archaeologists, who often worked in challenging contexts and during difficult historical periods, making significant contributions to the development of the discipline.
The hour-long tour is aimed at individual visitors and families and is available in Italian.
It will take place on Sunday 8 March 2026 at 11:00 am at the National Archaeological Museum of Reggio Calabria. Participation in the tour is free, but the museum entrance ticket is not included. Online reservations can be made through the call centre, subject to availability.
