Trains of the Peaks

An exciting journey through time aboard a historic train that crosses the Sila woods to reach the snow-capped peaks with the Lorica cable car. An experience that combines history, nature, and tradition in a journey through breathtaking landscapes and atmospheres of the past, scheduled for January 18 and 25, 2026.

The journey is enriched with special moments along the way. The first stop is in Sculca, where passengers witness an exciting reenactment: the assault on the train by bandits, organized by the Calabria Railway Tourism and Entertainment Association, which catapults participants into the atmosphere of 19th-century Sila. This is followed by tastings of typical local products to discover the authentic flavors of the Calabrian mountains.

The route continues to the station of San Nicola-Silvana Mansio, the highest railway station in Italy at 1,405 meters above sea level, before reaching Lorica. Here, the cable car takes you to the peaks of Monte Botte Donato, where spectacular views of the snow-covered Sila open up.
