In the picturesque setting of the Savuto Valley, on the slopes of the Sila, Scigliano is preparing to relive history with a unique event on 5 and 6 October 2024. The protagonist will be the famous Roman bridge over the Savuto river, also known as Ponte di Sant'Angelo or Ponte di Annibale, dating back to 131-121 BC. According to legend, it was crossed by Hannibal with his army during the Punic Wars.
The event will offer a historical re-enactment in costume of the epic battle between Hannibal and the Roman army, surrounded by a Roman camp and a Breton village, recreating the scenario of a distant era. The initiative aims to enhance this important historical site, once part of the ancient Via Popilia, and to bring the public closer to a piece of Calabrian history rich in fascination and legend.
