Based on the novel of the same name by Andrea Camilleri, The Brewer of Preston arrives on stage with the direction of Giuseppe Dipasquale, who signs with the author the theatrical reduction of this extraordinary story. Set in a small Sicilian town, Vigàta, in the second half of the 19th century, the play recounts the events surrounding the inauguration of the new civic theatre ‘Re d'Italia’ with a mix of irony and tragedy.
The prefect of Montelusa, forced by his duties, wants to inaugurate the opera season with an opera by Ricci, but the inhabitants of Vigàta, with their indomitable spirit and their attachment to local traditions, are firmly opposed. Among the protagonists are the ineffable Prefect Bortuzzi and the cynical Don Memè Ferraguto, who give rise to a conflict that leads to an unpredictable and comic finale.
