From 7 to 9 November 2025, Reggio Calabria will host Slow Grains – Dialogues for Cultivating the Future, a three-day event dedicated to traditional grains, quality bread and the promotion of Italian biodiversity. The event, organised by the Metropolitan City of Reggio Calabria with Slow Food Italia and Slow Food Grains, will take place in the Library Hall of Palazzo Alvaro, with meetings and conferences, and in Piazza Italia, which will be brought to life with taste workshops and a market exhibition featuring Slow Food Presidia and local bread, flour, pasta and dessert producers.
The event offers a rich programme of workshops, conferences and tastings, aimed at citizens, students, farmers and enthusiasts of cooking and sustainability. Among the main events are the creative workshop 'Today's bread and tomorrow's challenges', the Taste Workshop 'Traditional pasta' and the conferences 'The bread of the future', 'Cereals from the highlands' and 'From seed to agroecological system through biodiversity'. There will also be events dedicated to women in bread-making, Calabrian pastries and a Slow Grains dinner with chefs from the Slow Food Alliance of Calabria.
The Slow Grains Market, in Piazza Italia, is open on Saturday 8 November from 9am to 7pm and Sunday 9 November from 9am to 4pm. Here you can learn about more than 20 companies and taste flours, breads, pastas, desserts, extra virgin olive oils, craft beers, honeys and Calabrian Slow Food Presidia such as Ciminà caciocavallo, Aspromonte goat's cheese and Vibonese plateau pecorino.
