The best way to spend Father's Day in Calabria? Immerse yourself in the traditional Saint Joseph's Fair on Viale Mancini in Cosenza. Considered a popular ritual in its own right, the Saint Joseph's Fair in Cosenza is one of the largest and most eagerly awaited early spring market events in Calabria.
The 2025 edition of the St Joseph's Fair in Cosenza takes place from 15 to 19 March in the now customary location of Viale Mancini, the approximately 6 km-long route that, like every year, is populated with stalls and vendors of all kinds: from handicrafts to typical street-food, passing through the merry-go-round area dedicated to the little ones (plants, flowers and wickerwork remain on display until Sunday 23 March).
What are the origins of the St Joseph's Fair in Cosenza? Originating at the behest of Emperor Frederick II of Swabia in 1234, the original fair was held in autumn, in the Rivocati district, near the Shrine of Mary Magdalene, to which it was dedicated. Over time, changing to St Joseph's Fair and being linked to Father's Day, the fair became one of the most popular commercial events in the city.
