On Friday, August 9, 2025, the Church of St. Francis of Assisi in Gerace will host an afternoon of guided tours, historical narration, and experiential theater. “Gerace: from Byzantine monks to Normans” is the title of the storytelling tour with living history that will take participants on a journey to discover one of the symbolic places of Calabria’s religious and cultural history.
The event will begin at 3:00 p.m. with a theatrical guided tour of the church, focusing on the life of Byzantine monks in Gerace in the 10th century. At 4:30 p.m. and again at 5:30 p.m., the public will be able to participate in two sessions dedicated to the figure of Robert Guiscard, with educational and narrative displays that recreate the Norman context in an immersive and involving way.
The initiative, promoted by the Regional Directorate of National Museums of Calabria and organized in collaboration with the Municipality of Gerace, the Itineraria Bruttii association, and the Center for Theater Sociology Studies, represents a unique opportunity to rediscover, through innovative and engaging languages, the historical and cultural richness of one of the most fascinating villages in Calabria.
