On Monday 7 August at 9 p.m., in the evocative setting of the gardens of the Torre Sant'Antonio resort, a Cavallara tower included in the Carratelli Codex and located in Santa Caterina dello Ionio, Vincenzo Cataldo and Monica De Marco will present the book "From Venice to Calabria", Esperide edizioni, as part of the review "Uno Sguardo dalla Torre", now in its seventh season.

The book, edited by historian Vincenzo Cataldo, the aforementioned director of the "Museum of Seminara Ceramics" and Mario Panarello, is the result of painstaking work and very varied in terms of contributions and studies, long and demanding, and allows, among other topics, for an in-depth examination of the production of Gerace ceramics and, in general, of apothecary majolica in southern Calabria, with particular reference to cultural and economic exchanges with the Serenissima.

The cultural recovery operation finally restores to Gerace, as a documented phenomenon, a production of artefacts hitherto often erroneously referred to Venice or Caltagirone.

The volume demonstrates how, unlike Sicily, Calabria by the masters Cefali and Piraina was able to offer original productions of considerable artistic depth - widespread throughout the Mediterranean area - so much so that in the 17th century the market for Gerace majolica became an alternative to that of Venetian majolica.
