On Saturday 12 April 2025, at 5 pm, the National Archaeological Museum of Scolacium, in Roccelletta di Borgia, will host a conference entitled ‘’Cerealia: hymns to rebirth, symbols of prosperity‘’. A meeting that combines history, archaeology and culture in a fascinating tale about the ancient roots of the bond between man and nature.
The focus of the meeting will be the Cerealia, the Roman festivities dedicated to Ceres, goddess of fertility and harvests, celebrated every year from 12 to 19 April with propitiatory rites described in the works of Servius, Ovid, Columella and Plutarch. An opportunity to rediscover the customs and values associated with the cycle of the earth and its fruits. Particular attention will be paid to the evocative statue of Ceres found in the forum of ancient Scolacium, the symbol of a cult that has crossed the centuries leaving indelible traces in the Mediterranean heritage.
