Autumn Festival | Taranta Celtica

The rhythms and sounds of the tarantella meet those of Celtic music, with a truly surprising result. At the Autumn Festival comes the TarantaCeltica Project, which brings together the hypnotic rhythmic energy of the Southern Italian tarantella and the daring boldness of the Irish tradition to create an ecstatic, high-energy hybrid of passion and joy.

Led by master percussionists Andrea Piccioni and Dave Boyd, a world-class ensemble of multi-instrumentalists draws inspiration from the song and dance music of Calabria and Apulia and the rich and varied repertoire of jigs, reels, polkas and Irish songs. From this process emerges a unique performance event that weaves and unweaves these vibrant musical and cultural traditions; a collaboration that effortlessly transcends cultural boundaries, bringing an exciting contemporary take on a profound and ancient music. The show made its debut last April in Ireland; the Autumn Festival will be the national premiere of an overwhelmingly sounding concert.
