The sea, with its eternal movement and deep mysteries, has always inspired artists, poets and musicians. Its vastness, its unstoppable rhythm and its mutability evoke profound emotions, which classical music is able to translate into sound. The waves, like the notes, follow one another in a constant flow, sometimes impetuous, other times gentle and soothing. In this perfect harmony between nature and music, water becomes a symbol of life and transformation, an element that flows, nourishes and shapes the world.
This will be the leitmotif of the concert ‘Essentia. La partitura dell'essenziale’, scheduled for 17 September 2024, starting at 9.30 p.m. at Palazzo S. Chiara: music will merge with the very essence of the sea and nature, transporting the Tropea audience into an intimate and profound dialogue between sounds and landscapes, myths and feelings, in which the sea will be the leitmotif of universal emotions.
The star of the evening will be pianist Emilio Aversano, who will enchant the audience with a rich and intense programme.
The concert will bring to life masterpieces by some of the greatest composers of the classical tradition. The performance will open with two pieces by Franz Schubert, the Impromptu Opus 90 No. 3 and the Impromptu Opus 90 No. 4, in which the Viennese composer's delicacy and poetry will express essential and pure beauty. This will be followed by Fryderyk Chopin's Prelude Op. 28 No. 15 ‘The Drop of Water’, a symbolic work that will transport the listener into a rarefied atmosphere, in which the sound of a single drop of water will become the centre of a sound universe rich in nuances and emotional depth.
Bringing the audience to the height of dramatic tension will be the performance of Ludwig van Beethoven's famous Sonata Op. 57 ‘Appassionata’. In this sonata, one of the most monumental in the piano repertoire, Aversano will restore the energy and passion of the German composer, also linked to Beethoven's admiration for the myth of Ulysses. The figure of the Homeric hero, a symbol of intelligence and tenacity, inspired Beethoven in his incessant desire for serenity and landing, after a long and tormented journey, comparable to that of the legendary traveller.
The evening will end with Felix Mendelssohn's brilliant Rondo Capriccioso, a lively and virtuosic piece that will enhance Aversano's technical and interpretative skills.
The concert will be a musical journey that, through the sea and its myths, will celebrate the essential beauty of classical music, capable of evoking universal and timeless feelings, and of taking the listener to a place of introspection and stillness.
