Town

The town of Lattarico, in the province of Cosenza, is located in a hilly area on the inland side overlooking the scenic Crati Valley. The name seems to have been inherited from an ancient Roman landowner, a certain Lattaricus.

Among the most beautiful places to visit in the town are the Convent of San Francesco di Paola, in the central square, Palazzo Marsico and the adjacent Church of San Nicola di Bari (1547).

Not to be missed is a tour of the sumptuous estate of Villa Contessa Caracciolo (18th century), part of the circuit of Historical Residences (ADSI) in Calabria, today among the excellent farms.

Preserved by the current owners in its original form, the villa has an extraordinary park covering an area of more than 4 hectares, preserving the old sharecroppers' dwellings and service areas (stables, stone mill, ovens and various storerooms).
