Sea

A popular seaside resort in Tyrrhenian Calabria, along the so-called Costa dei Tramonti (or "of the Phaeacians", from the name of the legendary people believed to have inhabited it), Falerna, in the province of Catanzaro, looks out to the sea but lies at the foot of the Reventino mountain range.

Apparently, the name derives from Falerno, a prized indigenous grape variety dating back to Roman times, which is still the basis of local wine production today.

Falerna's first inhabited centre dates back to the 17th century. Today, its centre is a starting point for pleasant excursions along the Griffo river and towards Mount Mancuso, where you can spend a day immersed in nature. Admire the remains of ancient settlements in the hamlet of Castiglione Marittimo.

Before leaving Falerna, enjoy a stroll along the seafront and a dinner or aperitif of fresh fish at the restaurants and kiosks along the beach.
