Mother Church of San Benedetto
Place of worship
The Church was built between 1086 and 1104, at the behest of the Abbey of Montecassino. During the centuries, the original building was enlarged and in 1767-79 it was almost completely rebuilt and decorated with frescoes in the following years. During the Second War, the Church was demaged and its façade was restored in 1950. The restoration saved the original portals, realized in 1784 by Cetraro's workers.
Overlying the major portal, there is the statue of Saint Benedict, placed there since 1775. In origins, the bellfry was one of the watchtower of Cetraro. Inside, the church is realized in baroque style and the space is divided in three naves.
