Point of interest

The "Corrado Alvaro" Literary Itinerary was created with the intention of introducing people to the places described in the works of the great Calabrian writer and journalist, creating interest and cultural tourism on them.

Starting from Alvaro's birthplace, the current headquarters of the Foundation named after him, it is possible to visit the small historic centre of San Luca: the Mother Church of S. Maria della Pietà; the remains of Palazzo Stranges, mentioned in "Gente in Aspromonte" and "L'uomo nel labirinto"; and the Loggia del Petto.

Continuing along the Buonamico torrent, you reach the remains of the ancient settlement of Potamìa, mentioned in "La cavalla nera", abandoned in the 16th century, and penetrate into the heart of the Aspromonte, as far as the Shrine of the Madonna di Polsi, to which the writer dedicated his debut work (1912).

From San Luca, it is also possible to follow a series of paths equipped for trekking, such as the "Englishman's Path", reproposed on the basis of Edward Lear's 1847 descriptions.
