In the heart of the Aspromonte National Park lies the Valle Infernale Vetusta beech forest, in the municipality of San Luca.

Primordial beech woods, which have resisted environmental and anthropic transformations for centuries, won the important recognition among Calabria's UNESCO Sites in 2021.

Immersed in an ecosystem of great beauty, the Valle Infernale Vetusta beech forest is made up of trees that can reach up to 600 years of age, preserving their life cycle unaltered, from germination to natural death. In fact, dead trees are not removed, but left in place as a source of nourishment and refuge for many other organisms.
