Museum
The Bergamot and Food Museum is located in Reggio Calabria, at the Old Covered Market, and is the result of a project of the Bergamot Academy to protect, enhance and publicise the precious Bergamot of Reggio Calabria - Essential Oil PDO, one of the excellences of Calabrian agribusiness.
The museum houses various machines used to extract the juice and essence from citrus fruits, including the famous "Gangeri" Bergamot Machine, derived from the model invented in 1840 by Nicola Barillà. Inside, there is also a photographic collection illustrating the cultivation, harvesting and processing of jasmine and opium poppy.
The activities of the Bergamot Academy are varied and include events such as the "BergaFest", workshops and perfumery courses and the Bergamot Library.
