Located between the Ionian Sea and the Sila Grande, Melissa is famous for its Cirò DOCG wine, but also for its wonderful beach. It has been awarded the title of "Lilla Municipality" because tourists are welcome here and every effort is made to ensure that all people with disabilities have a pleasant stay.
One of Melissa's landmarks is its seafront promenade, which offers a long, relaxing walk on paving that is also suitable for wheelchairs, with no steps or ramps to access the beach. During the summer season, the seafront is closed to traffic and becomes exclusively pedestrianised. The public outdoor gym is also designed to allow people with disabilities to use the equipment and is equipped with benches and kerbs to make the space more welcoming, as is the football pitch, which has reserved parking spaces at the edge of the pitch and easy access to the stands. For the little ones, there is the Cristoforo Colombo Park with inclusive games suitable for all children. Whether with your family, a group of friends, alone or as a couple, visiting Melissa will always be a pleasure, without obstacles or architectural barriers.
The wonderful Aragonese Tower, also known as "Torrazzo", houses a Museum of Rural Life and a restaurant. Access ramps, handrails, kerbs and accessible toilets make the structure accessible to people with mobility difficulties.
The historic centre of Melissa, with its uneven surfaces, slopes and cobblestones, is certainly an inaccessible place for people with disabilities, but the municipality provides an electric minibus equipped for wheelchair transport. Simply book it by contacting the tourist office. A few kilometres from the village, you can stop at a picnic area, which guarantees access to barbecues even for those in wheelchairs.
