Proposed by Core Calabro

A tour of history, culture and traditions to discover Amantea, nestled along the Cosenza Tyrrhenian coast. An enthralling urban trek, amidst suggestive corners and unique views, to explore the ancient and modern heart of the city.

The route begins at Calavecchia, next to Piazza Commercio, once a natural landing place for sailors and now the starting point for immersing oneself in the city's historical atmosphere. From here, we ascend towards the monumental complex of San Bernardino da Siena, with its church and Franciscan convent, guardian of authentic masterpieces of art such as the Madonna and Child by Antonello Gagini, the Nativity by Pietro Bernini and precious 15th-century Valencian ceramics.

We continue along Corso Umberto I and Via Cavour, through the old town, scene of the French siege of 1807. A stop at Largo Chianura provides an insight into the ancient maritime traditions that have marked Amantea's identity.

The tour continues with a visit to the Chiesa Matrice di San Biagio and exploration of the Catocastro district, where the former Jesuit College stands. The route culminates on the hill that houses the city's first Franciscan church and an imposing coastal tower. From here, the view opens onto an extraordinary panorama that embraces the Gulf of Sant'Eufemia and, on clear days, offers the silhouette of the volcano Stromboli on the horizon.

An experience amid history and landscapes, to discover the authentic charm of Amantea.
