The lady of the village

The "Dama del Borgo 2023" competition, now in its third edition, was born with the intention of making the younger generations active protagonists of a process of revaluation of the beauty of the villages and their cultural traditions, illustrating the historical period that characterized the life of the village of Sant'Ilario dello Ionio through the magic of the costumes and the evocative scenographies lived inside. "A dive into the past between history and legends" to recover a historical memory, very often forgotten. The clothes worn by the young competitors enclose in their precious fabrics the story of historical periods which have known moments of extraordinary splendor also in the village of Sant'Ilario dello Ionio as evidenced by the treasures kept in the churches and monuments, in the castle of Condojanni, in the songs and poems handed down from generation to generation have always been a faithful mirror of societies, times, the interiority of peoples, a communication code that speaks of us and our world even before the most immediately perceived languages.
