New Roots - Badolato

Calabria has been and continues to be a land of emigration: it is estimated that more than 10 million Calabrians/calabro-descendants live outside the region. This is the datum from which the project to re-propose a new face of Calabria starts, to pursue a new way of being a community, a new way that brings together those who left and those who stayed, new arrivals and returnees.

This is the direction in which the programme that will be held in Badolato on the 27th will move, thanks to an event organised by the municipal administration led by Mayor Giuseppe Nicola Parretta. It will be a sort of reverse journey of roots, during which we will question ourselves on the theme of roots, on what we call identity, belonging, homesickness. It will be a choral tale to understand how leftovers, partisanship, new arrivals and returnees can found a new model of community. Stories, readings, music and songs will alternate.

The event will also feature a visit at 8.30 p.m. to Palazzo Gallelli with its photographic exhibition ‘Wrinkles. Memories of a Generation' by Pino Codispoti. Following this, the Pro Loco Badolato APS will take visitors on a narrative walk through the narrow streets of the village for an interesting and itinerant ‘Laboratorio delle Radici’. The evening will end with the theatrical performance in dialect ‘Tempu passa...e tuttu torna’, a maximum identity element, which will take place in Piazza Castello from 9.30 pm.
