The National Archaeological Museum of the Sibaritide is preparing to host an immersive, multi-sensory experience of culture, taste and territorial identity. On Friday 14 June 2025, at 6 p.m., ‘’Lymph: essences from the earth‘’ kicks off, the new exhibition-event dedicated to the millenary culture of oil in Calabria.
The initiative, promoted by the Archaeological Parks of Crotone and Sibari in cooperation with the Azienda Regionale per lo Sviluppo dell'Agricoltura Calabrese, officially opens the path towards the second edition of Vinitaly and the City, scheduled in the Archaeological Park of Sibari from 18 to 20 July.
‘Lymph’ combines archaeology, myth and taste, focusing on extra virgin olive oil as a cultural and spiritual symbol of the Mediterranean. The route is divided into seven thematic sections that span the centuries, from Prehistory to the Roman age, telling the story of the olive plant and its daily, sacred and symbolic use. Ancient tools, presses, amphorae, oil lamps, and objects related to cosmetics and sport dialogue with multimedia installations, augmented reality and photographic evidence, offering visitors an engaging tale accessible to all.
The gastronomic heart of the event will be the ‘’Saturday Ionic Tapas Night‘’, in the garden of the Archaeological Park: four evenings of show-cooking and tastings led by iconic chefs from the area, paired with Calabrian wines. The first event will be on Saturday 14 June, with chef Giuseppe Gatto and the flavours of the Trebisacce area.
During the inaugural event, the ‘’Sibaritico: the Park's extra virgin olive oil‘’ project will also be presented, born from the hand-harvesting of olives from the historic olive grove within the archaeological area. An oil that becomes story and symbol, evoking the refined lifestyle of the Sybarites, with packaging inspired by the iconography of the Greek lekythos.
Other scheduled initiatives include: Saturday 28 June the inauguration of the ‘’Copia-Copiae‘’ photographic exhibition with shots from the Claudio Abate archive, and Saturday 12 July the conference ‘’Wellbeing and Beauty‘’, devoted to Sybarite culture between tradition and innovation.
