International Festival Ruggiero Leoncavallo - 21st Edition

With an ancient and glorious cultural tradition, the city of Montalto Uffugo, bears witness, through its historical finds, to the various phases of civilisation that have passed through it over the centuries. "Aufugum" offers a Norman Tower, remains of a Castle from the Angevin period, portals from various eras, and many remarkable churches such as the majestic Duomo della Serra, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, housing a valuable wooden Madonna and Child from the 14th-15th century, enriched in the façade by the precious work of local stonemasons.

This enchanting architectural/historical/cultural setting will host the 21st edition of the International Opera Festival dedicated entirely to Ruggiero Leoncavallo. This edition will boast the collaboration of the Orchestra Sinfonica Brutia - conducted by Francesco Perri - who will ensure the artistic content by inviting and involving internationally renowned artists and musicians.

As part of the festival, the 16th edition of the International Opera Competition named after Ruggiero Leoncavallo will take place, in which a selection of the best talents from all Italian and foreign conservatories will participate. This edition boasts the presence on the jury of Michela Sburlati, an internationally renowned soprano, as well as commissioners Valerio Vicari, Dejan Prochev, Sandro Gemmiti and Roberto Moretti, and aims to regain its rightful place in Italy as a point of reference for new opera voices.
