From news to cinema: the drama of Cutro

As part of the 14th edition of the Caccuri Literary Prize, on Sunday, August 3, at 9:00 p.m. at Piazza Convento in Caccuri, in the province of Crotone, there will be an evening dedicated to the theme of migration and documentary cinema. 
The evening will feature the participation of the Sabir Association with the project “Sogna Ragazzo Sogna” (Dream Boy Dream), which will involve young migrants and guests of the Sabir house. Participants will share their personal stories through narratives free of rhetoric but characterized by intense emotion, offering the audience the opportunity to learn about their life paths and experiences of integration.
The guest of honor at the event will be Mimmo Calopresti, a nationally renowned director and screenwriter, who will present the documentary “Cutro, Calabria, Italia” accompanied by a debate on the topic. The film recounts the sinking of the Summer Love caique in Cutro, a docufilm that explores one of the most dramatic tragedies to have occurred in the Mediterranean, offering a profound reflection on contemporary migration phenomena.
The meeting will be attended by Member of the European Parliament Giusi Princi, who will take part in the debate alongside Anton Giulio Grande, President of the Calabria Film Commission, Giuseppe Piastra, editor of “Il Crotonese,” and Manuelita Scigliano, President of the Sabir Association. The evening will be hosted by Paola Bottero, an experienced journalist in the cultural sector. The event offers the region an important opportunity for cultural exchange on issues of European and international relevance, consolidating the role of the Caccuri Literary Prize in the regional cultural landscape.
