Now in its 66th edition (2024), the Carnival of Castrovillari, in the town of the same name in the province of Cosenza, is one of the most important and famous historical carnivals in Italy.

It was 1635 when the theatrical farce of Organtino was first performed in Castrovillari during Carnival. On the other hand, the first carnival event, conceived by the Castrovillari Pro Loco on the intuition of Prof. Vittorio Vigiano, dates back to 1959, when the first edition of the "Pollino Carnival and International Folklore Festival" was launched.

Today, starting from that first intuition, the combination of masks and folklore has become the identity card of the Carnival of Castrovillari, one of the most historic events in the region and one of the most eagerly awaited and attended in Italy.

Like every year, during the Carnival of Castrovillari, the traditional parades of allegorical floats in the city centre are alternated with many side events: dance kermesses, parades, concerts, and the unfailing "Sirinata d'a Savuzìzza", one of the most beloved events of the Castrovillari carnival together with the concluding "Coronation of Carnival King".
