Shrine of the Madonna della Grotta

Shrine of the Madonna della Grotta is placed inside the cavity of three rock about 90 meters above sea level, reached by a series of steps by which you can admire Gulf of Policastro. Inhabited since Upper Paleolithic, as attested by studies conducted since 1960 by Italian Institute of Human Palaeontology of University of Rome, Shrine has characterized the territory in which it is located, becoming place of worship for Byzantine monks in sixteenth century. In the second half of 1800 were completed several works: staircase, entrance, main altar and two side altars.
