Sport and nature

If you are in and around Lamezia Terme and are looking for an experience of nature and sports in the woods, we recommend a trek to discover the Dossi-Comuni Park, the landscape area that represents the "green lung" of the city.

This large botanical park in the province of Catanzaro, exactly between the municipalities of Lamezia Terme and Feroleto Antico, extends over about 60 hectares and offers nature lovers a variety of more than 1,000 botanical species, including tree-lined avenues, woodland, clearings and trekking trails where they can regenerate body and mind.

Let's enter the Dossi-Comuni Park to discover the trails and sports areas suitable for everyone.

Dossi-Comuni Park: available trails

Spending an afternoon immersed in a large botanical park with a pine forest, a stone's throw from the city, is priceless!

This is why the Dossi-Comuni Park represents a primary reference point for the people of Lammet to disconnect from stress and experience close contact with nature. The pine forest stretches across the top of the hill, while the botanical garden, the work of agronomist Garcea in 1972, occupies the area further down the valley.

This extraordinary garden consists of a collection of more than 1,000 plant species, including trees, shrubs, herbs, medicinal plants and a whole range of undergrowth specialities, such as mushrooms, that are an almost complete expression of the Calabrian Mediterranean maquis.

Strolling in the shady area of the Dossi-Comuni Park is a real bath of relaxation, both for sportsmen and women who wish to go trekking along the equipped paths, and for those who wish to spend a relaxing time with their families and children, to whom environmental education workshops are often dedicated. In the centre of the Dossi-Comuni Park there is also a small stone amphitheatre for small seasonal events.

Among the trails available for trekking in the Dossi-Comuni Park are those of different lengths and practicability, also suitable for running and yoga breaks.

Finally, there is no shortage of picnic areas and gazebos where people can meet for lunch or a snack in the unspoilt heart of Dossi-Comuni Park. A pond with hundreds of aquatic species is the real gem of the park.

Other activities in Lamezia Terme and around the Dossi-Comuni Park

The Dossi-Comuni Park is the largest and best loved by the people of Lamezia Terme, but it is not the only one in and around the city. Other green spaces in Lamezia Terme include the San Pietro Lametino Urban Park in the district of the same name.

This green area, right in the centre of the city, is a meeting point for young and old with equipped picnic areas, a playground and areas accessible to the disabled. A garden with fountains and flower beds, among which it is a pleasure to relax with a book, sunbathe and stroll.

Another green place in the city is Mitoio Park, 1 km from the renowned Caronte Thermal Baths, in Sambiase. An urban naturalistic oasis in the centre of which is an amphitheatre with a capacity of 2500 seats, made of Reventino Stone. The park extends over a total area of 250 hectares, with trekking trails to enjoy in the wilderness.

Finally, the Torrente Piazza River Park (or "Felice Mastroianni") runs along the river bed in the southern part of Nicastro's historic centre, crossing with trekking and walking trails a partly urbanised and partly rural scenery, with interesting photographic views of the oldest part of the city.

What are you waiting for? You too can discover the gardens and urban parks of the Lametino area from the immersive and regenerating experience of the Dossi-Comuni Park.
