Scalea virtuous city in waste sorting

This is a great recognition for the whole of Calabria straordinaria and for the road of new narrative that the region has taken. The municipality of Scalea won the Ride Green Awards 2022, a project dedicated to the sustainability of the Giro d'Italia 2022, as the most virtuous city in waste separation among those hosting the stage arrivals.
On the prize podium with Scalea were the municipalities of Cuneo and Naples, second and third respectively. As for the locations of the stage starts, Isernia triumphed, followed by Parma and Avola.
It is worth remembering that on 12 May 2022, Scalea hosted the sixth stage of the 105th edition of the Giro d'Italia, namely the Palmi - Scalea Riviera dei Cedri, promoted by the Scalea municipality in collaboration with the Calabria Region, the Pollino National Park and ECOtur.
In detail, Ride Green Awards 2022 is the social responsibility project of the Pink Race linked to waste separation at the stage locations, BiciScuola and Giro-E. The awards went to the centres that distinguished themselves in environmental matters during the 2022 edition of the race.
During the sports event, the municipality of Scalea's contribution was aimed at acting as an intermediary between the clubs and local associations to enlist volunteers in the eco-islands for the proper management of flows. In total, Ride Green managed to collect over 46,000 kilograms of waste during the Pink Race, of which 85% was sorted and sent for recycling.
